First Aid on the Farm: What’s the Difference?

It is easy to forget just how dangerous agricultural work can be. Many machines used on the farm can cause injuries and deaths. It is estimated that, every day, there are 100 agricultural workers injured. These injuries can be small but think about how big agricultural sites can get. Medical help may take several minutes to arrive at the scene of an accident. In the case of severe injuries, those minutes may mean the difference between life and death.

It is vital to have your workers trained in first aid. From machine accidents to animal attacks, there are many hazards in agricultural work. Having employees that know the dangers and know what to do if an accident happens could be the difference between an injury and a fatality.

But what’s the difference? Is there a difference between agricultural first aid and general first aid? Many of the procedures are the same. Knowing how to make a splint or perform CPR won’t change. It is the unique environment, as well as the time it takes for others to arrive there, that makes agricultural first aid a tricky subject.

At Hard Hat Training, we are developing agricultural training that can help your employees feel confident while out in the field. We want workers to know how to help themselves as well as how to help others. We hope that, by developing an agriculture-specific training, we can bring down the number of fatalities that happen on farms and ranches. We want all employees to feel like they are armed with knowledge and confidence.

Our Agricultural first aid training will be available shortly. In the meantime, be sure to check out our other safety trainings as well as our general first aid training here. Good luck and stay safe!
